The Plough Hotel, Town Yetholm

Some places you work in. Some places you become part of.

And some places… you build a life around.

The Plough is one of those.

My mum and I own The Plough Hotel in Yetholm, a country pub with rooms on the edge of the Scottish Borders. It’s a place I’ve known my entire life, growing up in the village and starting behind the bar at 18. A few years later, my mum and I took it on together and made it our own.

It’s always felt less like “taking over a business” and more like continuing something that already belonged to the community.

Because The Plough has never really been about who is behind the bar. It’s about the feeling you get when you walk through the door.

Like being welcomed by an old friend.

Now in 2026, we’re proud to have spent over a decade owning and growing it together, still hands-on, still involved, and still deeply connected to the people who come through the door.

The Pub

The Plough is a proper village pub in every sense - warm, welcoming, and full of life.

It’s where walkers drop in after the hills, locals gather for a catch-up, and evenings quietly turn into “just one more”.

There’s always conversation, always laughter somewhere in the room, and always a sense that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.

Lynsey runs the bar alongside a brilliant, friendly team who genuinely care about the place and the people in it. From the kitchen to the bedrooms, everyone plays their part in making sure guests feel looked after from the moment they arrive.

The Rooms

The building dates back to the 1600s, and the rooms reflect that history in their own way, individually styled, comfortable, and full of character.

They’re the kind of rooms where people settle in quickly, sleep well, and often end up staying just a little longer than planned.

My Role

I’m still very much part of The Plough, just in a slightly different way now.

These days I focus mainly on the website and social media - if you want to keep up to date, you’ll find us on our channels there -helping to tell its story beyond the village. I’ll still often be found behind the bar when I’m home too.

Alongside my work as a hotel consultant and celebrant, and my continued involvement with The Plough, I also run my own production company, Water Horse Productions, which is heading to the Edinburgh Fringe this August.

Different roles, same thread running through them all, people, experience, and connection.

The Plough is where it started for me, and it will always be part of what I do.

If you’re passing through the Borders, we’d love to welcome you in.
